172
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Ad
Item No.
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: FEBRUARY 16, 1988
SUBJECT: SUBSCRIPTION AND FEE SCHEDULE FOR COMPUTER ACCESS TO LAND
RECORDS SYSTEM
DEPARTMENT: CENTRAL LAND RECORDS PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT:ROSCOE REEVE
LAND RECORDS, X547
PROPOSED FEE SCHEDULE
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
PURPOSE: Consideration of a subscription and fee schedule for allowing
telephone access to the Land Records System by private firms
and individuals.
BACKGROUND: One of the payoffs of the land records system is to allow
private individuals and firms who need land information on a
regular basis to use their own computer and modem to call the
County on a telephone and access the system. The County has
determined that this can be done, while maintaining system
security, and that this will reduce office demand for CRT's at
County offices. The fee's are required to pay for that equip-
ment and services necessary to provide access, and to maintain
and expand access capabilities. Land Records and Data
Processing have been testing the new access for two months,
with outside users. The system works well, and is ready to be
implemented on a fee basis.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
Approve the subscription and fee schedule for access to the
land records system by outside private firms and individuals.
