ORANGE COUNTY 014 <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> Action Age <br /> Item No. <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: FEBRUARY 16, 1988 <br /> SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE AMBULANCE FROM STATE CONTRACT <br /> DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: MANAGER'S <br /> OFFICE,X501 <br /> NONE <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To authorize purchase of an ambulance from State contract. <br /> BACKGROUND: The County routinely participates in State vehicle contracts. <br /> The contract currently in force for ambulances is with Ashley <br /> Vehicles, Jefferson, N.C. <br /> The Ashley vehicle has been on State contract for the past two <br /> years and has met with favorable response in user counties. <br /> In view of the intensive evaluation that the State conducts <br /> prior to an award of this type of equipment and in view of the <br /> evaluation done by County staff we feel confident that an <br /> award to Ashley is in the best interest of Orange County. <br /> The Rescue Squad submitted several items they would like to <br /> have included on the vehicle purchased by the County. The <br /> County was able to accommodate most of the requests. The <br /> Rescue Squad Chief reviewed and approved the final options <br /> list and concurs with the purchase of the Ashley vehicle. <br /> This is the first time that staff has recommended a diesel <br /> unit be purchased. This would eliminate the potential fuel <br /> line explosion problems the gasoline units have experienced in <br /> the past year. <br /> The $33,831 cost of the vehicle including options is budgeted <br /> in the 1987-88 budget. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Authorize the purchase of an ambulance from Ashley Vehicle, <br /> Inc. for a sum of $33,831. <br />
