112 PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDMENT <br /> ORDINANCE: Zoning Ordinance <br /> REFERENCE: 6. 16 .6 �S <br /> As An Accessory Us@ <br /> ORIGIN OF AMENDMENT: _..xStaff _Planning Board_x�BOCC <br /> Public Other : <br /> STAFF PRIORITY RECOMMENDATION: �xHigh Middle Low <br /> Comment : <br /> EXPECTED PUBLIC HEARING DATE: November 23, 1987 <br /> PURPOSE: To amend Article 6 . 16 . 6 of the Zoning <br /> Ordinance to provide additional conditions <br /> to when home occupations may be permitted <br /> and to clarify the approval process for Home <br /> Occupation Permits. <br /> IMPACTS/ ISSUES: The County has received complaints about <br /> several home occupations. The complaints <br /> involve impacts on adjoining residential <br /> areas that result from operation of the home <br /> occupations. The question raised in <br /> response to these complaints was whether the <br /> definition of home occupation was too broad, <br /> thereby allowing inappropriate uses in <br /> residential areas. <br /> An evaluation of the home occupation provi- <br /> sions in other jurisdictions indicated a <br /> range of approaches being used, varying from <br /> more restrictive to less restrictive than <br /> Orange County provisions. Requirements <br /> addressing external impacts were noted in <br /> particular and are recommended for addition <br /> to the Zoning Ordinance. This approach is <br /> recommended to address concerns regarding <br /> the impacts of home occupations. While <br /> providing requirements limiting home <br /> occupations to truly incidental uses of <br /> residential property, the proposed <br /> amendments would allow County residents <br /> latitude in the type of home occupation <br /> activity in which they may engage.
