~~fS Minutes of the Hoard of Commissioners <br />Tuesday, July 6, 1954 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met is regular aeesion on Tues- <br />day, July b, 1954 at 10 o'clock A. 31. in the Commlasionera' room at the Court <br />house in Billsboro> North Carolina. <br />Mombars present: Chairman R. 0. Forrest, Commissioner Sim L. Efland and <br />Commissioner R. J. 34. Hobbs. <br />Members Absent: None. <br />The minutes of the past five meetings were read and approved. <br />IIpon motion duly made and seconded the following Aid to Hlind Grants <br />ware approved: <br />Releh Dollar Lanier 540.00 per month <br />Sophronia Sykes reduced from 542 to 530 per month <br />Sallie Pope - terminated <br />whereas, it Ss neces s¢rg aad proper that fixed salaries, principal and <br />intareat of indebtedness, stated compensetion of officers and employees, and <br />uausl ordinary expanses of the county and its subdivisions may be promptly <br />paid. <br />Now, therefore, upon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded by <br />Commiesloner Hobbs, it 1e hereby ordered that the following interim <br />appropriations be made: <br />To the General Fund S 2,500.00 <br />To Public {Yelfard Fund 20,000.00 <br />To Salary Fund 3, 000. CO <br />To School Fund 10,000.00 <br />To Recorder's Court Fund 500.00 <br />To Realth Funds 1 00.00 <br />,37, oo.oo <br />The County Accountant is authrolzed and directed to pay current ordinary <br />expanses against the funds above listed not exceeding the amounts of the <br />appropriations hereby made. Said apnropr iatl ons made by this resolution shalt <br />be chnrgeeble to the several appropriations respectively horeafter made in ti <br />annual eo propriat ions resolution and adoption of ennual budget for the year <br />1954-1955, which will be done at the adjourned July 26, 1954 meeting of the <br />Hoard. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Erland, seconded by Commies Sonar Aobbs, M. C <br />Hurt, Colored County Farm Agent, was granted permission to attend a three <br />weeks refresher course in Agriculturel Extension Procedure at Cornell Univer- <br />si.ty, Ithaca, N. Y., July 12-30, on a Scholarship Grant. <br />The Board of Education and Mr. G. Paul Carr, Superintendent of Schools, <br />appeared end discussed their 1954-1955 budget requests. <br />Mr. C. VV. Devis, Superintendent of Chapel Aill Schools and Mr. Grey <br />Culbre th, a member of the Chapel Hill School Board, anpeard in connection <br />with their budget renuest forthie fiscal yes r. <br />Tha Boerd informed the above that statements had been made that the <br />19S4-S5 County Tax Rate would be from S.S7 to 5.62, and to keep within a <br />5.62 tex rate it would be necessary to cut the request far schools. <br />Uoon motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Cartusiss inner Robbs, the <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />That whereas, the Hoard has discussed the fiscal budget for the year <br />1954°1955 and has agreed upon tentative figures in said budget, but final <br />adoption thereof has been poe tponod until the adjourned meeting on July <br />z6, 1954, in order that said tentative budget may ba d.~ly published and a <br />copy thereof be filed in the office of the Register of Deeds for public <br />insnectioa. <br />Thero being no further business, upon motion ad,j Darned to meet July <br />26, 1954 et 7:30 o'clock P.tt. <br />J.
