RESOLUTION REGARCIHG NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF E4'IIRC <br /> ; A;aA_EHENT PRCPOSEJ WATER SUPPLY CLASSIFICATIONS <br /> �2•• WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Natural Resourze: <br /> aid Community Development, Division of Environmental Management <br /> hrls proposed a new watershed classification system to protect <br /> : , sting and future water supplies and watersheds; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the State has requested that local governments <br /> Express their interest in having watersheds on which they rely <br /> for water supply classified at the highest possible level ; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City and County of Durham have both enacted a <br /> Sedimentation and Erosion Control Ordinance and Watershed Protec- <br /> tion Ordinance for all watersheds within their jurisdiction; and, <br /> cwt i <br /> WHEREAS, the existing Flat River and Little River are <br /> • <br /> currently classified A-II which would be equivalent to the new <br /> WS-III classification and- would be the least protective of the <br /> a= <br /> . 1 • new classification system; and, <br /> - WHEREAS, the existing Flat River and Little River Watersheds <br /> qualify under the new classification system for the WS-II classi- <br /> " fication and possibly portions of these watersheds could qualify <br /> • • <br /> for WS-I classification which would be the most protective <br /> classification available under the new system; and, <br /> WHEREAS", the City Council of the City of Durham is <br /> -'? interested in providing the highest level of protection for the <br /> Little River and Flat River Watersheds. <br /> ,ry <br /> 11 <br />
