084 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY Action Agenda <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS it No. G 11. <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> MEETING DATE APRIL 21, 1987 <br /> Subject: Governor' s Volunteer Awards <br /> Department: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Public Hearing: Yes % no I <br /> Attachments: Information Contact: Shirley Marshall <br /> and/or Beverly Blythe <br /> Guidelines Phone Numbers: 732-8181, 968-4501, <br /> 227-0231 <br /> PURPOSE: Select those agencies from which nominations will be solicited, select the <br /> four categories of volunteers and direct the Clerk to proceed. <br /> BACKGROUND: Each year the Governor' s Office of Citizen Affairs requests each County <br /> to nominate outstanding volunteers who best represent individuals meeting <br /> community needs. Those volunteers selected (4) are then honored at a recognition <br /> ceremony in the fall . Heretofore, nominations were requested from the following <br /> community agencies: OPC Mental Health, both school systems, RSVP, Rape Crisis <br /> Center, Recreation and Parks Advisory Council , OCIM, Senior Citizens Board, <br /> Board of Social Services, Women' s Health Counseling and the Youth Services Needs <br /> Task Force. The categories for last year were: two community service volunteers, <br /> one school volunteer and one volunteer organization. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Board needs to select the categories from which nominations <br /> will be solicited, to approve the list of community agencies that will be <br /> contacted for nominations, and to direct the Clerk to proceed. <br />
