GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA SESSION 1987 010 <br /> 1 elderly and handicapped transportation services at a level consistent with those in <br /> 2 place on January 1, 1986, shall be eligible for additional transportation assistance <br /> 3 funds. <br /> 4 (d) The Public Transportation Division of the Department of Transportation shall <br /> 5 administer this plan by the implementation of a distribution method that divides a <br /> 6 portion of the funds available equally among all counties, while the remainder of the <br /> 7 funds available shall be distributed to the counties on a formula based upon the <br /> 8 percent of elderly and handicapped residents per county in conjunction with <br /> 9 population density. <br /> 10 (e) Funds distributed by the Department under this section shall be used by local <br /> 11 governments in a manner consistent with the local transportation development plan." <br /> 12 Sec. 2. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department <br /> 13 of Transportation the sum of two million dollars ($2,000,000) for fiscal year 1987-88, <br /> 14 to provide start-up funds for the North Carolina Elderly and Handicapped <br /> 15 Transportation Assistance Program established by this act. <br /> 16 Sec. 3.
