• <br /> NOTES ON OUTLINE FOR COUNTY-SIDE NATURAL AREAS INVENTORIES <br /> • <br /> Purposes and Procedures <br /> This section explains the purposes behind a natural areas inventory <br /> of a county, briefly describes the products of the inventory and their <br /> usefulness to local and state agencies, organizations, and citizens. It <br /> also describes the general procedures followed in conducting the inventory. <br /> (This section can be written by the Natural Heritage staff for inclusion <br /> into each inventory, perhaps with some modifications to take into consid- <br /> eration pecularities of the individual county) <br /> II. Characteristics of the County <br /> The general purpose of this section is to provide general information <br /> on the county and its natural resources and conditions, providing the con- <br /> text for the specific natural area reports. Most of the information in <br /> this section will be collected by the investigators in the first phase of <br /> the project in order to frm;liarize themselves with the area and determine <br /> locations of potential natural areas and priorities for field investigation. <br /> County soil surveys (where available) are excellent sources of information <br /> for A-E. <br /> • <br /> III. Natural Area Reports <br /> • <br /> This section contains the results of the field investigations on <br /> individual natural areas. Information on each natural area includes: <br /> 1. Natural Area Name 17. Owner Attitude <br /> 2. County 18. Uses of Natural Area <br /> • • 3. Location 19. Uses of Surrounding Land <br /> 4. Topographic quad(s) 20. Preservation Status <br /> 5. Size 21. Regulatory Protections in Force <br /> 6. Elevation 22. Threats to Integrity of Area <br /> 7. Access 23. Management s Protection <br /> 8. Name(s) of Investigators Preservation Recommendations <br /> 9. Date(s) of Investigation 24. Plant Communities <br /> 10. Description of Site 25. Special Status Species <br /> 11. Description of Site Significance 26. Lists of Species <br /> 12. Summary of Significance 27. Map of Site Boundaries <br /> 13. Ownership.Type 28. Hap of Plant Communities <br /> 14. Number of Owners 29. Map of Locations of Rare Species <br /> 15. Names and Addresses of Owners <br /> 16. Names of Locals mold/or Scientists Knowledgeable About Site <br /> Also included is a list and description of areas investigated as <br /> potential natural areas, but found to be of poor quality. <br /> �• County-Wide Natural Area Recommendations and Priorities <br /> The goal of this section is to broaden out from individual natural <br /> area reports and discuss their importance on a county-wide and state-wide <br /> basis. It should assign relative priorities to areas, based on a com- <br /> b bination of natural significance and potential or actual threats to the <br /> integrity of the area.
