Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 967-9251 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 227-2031 <br /> *************************************************************************** <br /> PURPOSE : To receive citizen comment on a proposed amendment <br /> to the Joint Planning Area Land Use Plan. <br /> NEED: On October 13, 1986, the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners and the Chapel Hill Town Council <br /> adopted the Joint Planning Area Land Use Plan . <br /> Denoted on the Plan map and in the text was a <br /> residential land use category, described as a <br /> low-density area of single-family homes on large <br /> lots of at least two acres in size. <br /> To conform the Orange County Zoning Ordinance ( and <br /> Atlas) with the Joint Planning Area Land Use Plan, <br /> a public hearing was held on November 24, 1986 . <br /> The purpose of the hearing was to consider- a <br /> proposed Rural Buffer (RB) zoning district and <br /> accompanying dimensional requirements, including a <br /> two-acre minimum lot size requirement. <br /> On January 5, 1987, the Board of Commissioners <br /> adopted the RB zoning district designation and <br /> dimensional requirements applicable therein . At <br /> the same meeting, petitions with 643 signatures <br /> were received, requesting that the Joint Planning <br /> Area Land Use Plan be amended to reduce the lot <br /> size standard in the Rural Buffer from "one <br /> dwelling unit per two acres" to "one dwelling per <br /> acre" . <br /> Section 2.4 of the Joint Planning Agreement <br /> indicates that proposed amendments to the Land Use <br /> Plan shall not become effective until approved by <br />
