113
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
I. giaTaThily1U26n
Public transportation service in Orange County is
provided by Chapel Hill Transit and the County Department on
Aging.
II. QUANTITATIVE DATA
Regularly scheduled and demand responsive public trans-
portation service provided by Chapel Hill Transit is not
available in the Rural Buffer area.
The transportation service provided by the Department on
Aging, Coordinated Area Transportations is provided county-
wide. The service is available to clients of several local
social services such as OPC Mental Health Center.
III. IMPACT/IMPILATIONS
The low density development allowed in the rural buffer
will make the provision of public transportation service in
the rural buffer very unlikely. As a rule, the passenger and
revenue producing capacity of low density development is
insufficient to justify provision of public transportation
service. Rideshare service and park and ride facilities may
be considered at some point in the future.
IV. REFERE1 S
1. Chapel Hill Transit
2. Orange County Department on Aging
3. North Carolina Department of Transportation.
