041 <br /> AN ORDINANCE TO ASSIGN AND REGULATE <br /> HOUSE AND BUILDING NUMBERS <br /> IN ORANGE COUNTY <br /> WHEREAS, a consistent and coherent house and building <br /> numbering system for ORANGE COUNTY is necessary for public <br /> safety purposes, to minimize confusion for citizens and <br /> visitors to the County, to facilitate orderly and comprehen- <br /> sive mail delivery, and to establish a constant and permanent <br /> address for ORANGE COUNTY citizens; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> do ordain: <br /> Section 1. As used in this ordinance, the term "administra- <br /> tor" refers to the person designated by the <br /> County Manager to perform the responsibilities <br /> pursuant to the accomplishment of the terms of <br /> this ordinance. <br /> Section 2. The owner of every house and every principal <br /> building shall display or cause to be displayed <br /> on the front thereof, or on the appropriate rural <br /> box in a position easily observed from the <br /> street, the number assigned by the administrator <br /> to that specific house or building. House <br /> numbers used on rural boxes must be inscribed in <br /> contrasting color in neat numerals and letters <br /> not less than 1 inch high, on the side of the <br /> box, or on the door, if boxes are grouped. The <br /> owner shall comply with this section within <br /> thirty (30) days after receiving a written notice <br /> from the administrator requesting such action, <br /> and specifying the house or building number <br /> assigned. <br /> Section 3 . No person may display or cause to be displayed on <br /> any house, building or box any number other than <br /> the number assigned by the administrator. <br /> Section 4. No person may remove, obliterate or destroy any <br /> number displayed in accordance with Section 2 of <br /> this ordinance. <br /> Section 5. The administrator shall assign house and building <br /> numbers in accordance with a system that adheres <br /> as closely as possible to the principles set <br /> forth in this section. However, matters of <br /> interpretation regarding the following guidelines <br /> shall be formulated through the sound discretion <br /> of the administrator. <br />
