w <br /> 013 <br /> A RESOLUTION REGARDING SCHOOL MERGER <br /> WHEREAS the citizens of Orange County have long distinguished <br /> themselves by their commitment to public education, and <br /> WHEREAS they have been well served in this commitment by <br /> Boards of Commissioners, Boards of Education and professional <br /> staffs who have provided the leadership and organization necessary <br /> to secure excellence in education, and <br /> WHEREAS both school systems in Orange County have demonstrated <br /> their readiness to cooperate in the best interests of students and <br /> taxpayers throughout the county, and <br /> WHEREAS this Board does now reaffirm its own dedication to <br /> equal opportunity and quality education for all of the citizens, <br /> WE NOW THEREFORE IMPLORE the legislative delegation from this <br /> district, and all North Carolina legislators, to fully fund the <br /> state's Basic Education Plan so that we may have the necessary <br /> resources, and to leave administrative questions such as the <br /> merging of our school districts to the judgment and discretion of <br /> orange County and its citizenry. <br /> This the 17th day of February , 1987 . <br /> Shirley E.
