. d
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM: 8702-1501
Triangle J Regional Image Task Force Subcommittee on Olympic
Festival 187 1C:
February 3, 1987
Page 2
Chapel Hill ' s appearance commission has formed a subcommittee
of the Olympic Festival Subcommittee to coordinate landscap-
ing along the town' s entryways. 15-501 and Highway 54 . The
Town Council has given tentative approval to a contribution
of$15,000 for plantings and installation. I will be meeting
with the Chapel Hill subcommittee on February 5 to review
their plans and determine how Orange County could coordinate
with Chapel Hill as far as beautification.
The Olympic Festival will also provide flags and banners to
be used in combination with plantings, or to be displayed
along transportation routes to events.
The Olympic Festival will be a national event attracting
international attention and over 300 ,000 visitors to the
Triangle. I believe that Orange County has a considerable
responsibility to help improve the image of the Triangle
Area. After the meeting in Chapel Hill on Thursday, I will
be able to make a more focused proposal on ways the county
might show its best image, not only for the Olympic Festival,
but for the future as well.
