14 .s ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT <br /> HILLSBOROUGH <br /> NORTH CAROLINA <br /> 27278 <br /> 6 <br /> o <br /> 17 52 <br /> • <br /> O R A N G E C 0 U N T Y <br /> INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM <br /> 8702-1501 <br /> TO: Marvin Collins, Planning Director <br /> FROM: Emily Crudup, Planner II �1r&e <br /> SUBJECT: Triangle J Regional Image Task Force Subcommittee <br /> on Olympic Festival ' 87 <br /> DATE: February 3, 1987 <br /> As Orange County' s representative on the Olympic Festival <br /> Subcommittee, I would like to report on the group' s activi- <br /> ties. <br /> The main purpose of this subcommittee is to plan and help <br /> implement clean up/beautification efforts before, duringr and <br /> after the 1987 Olympic Festival scheduled for July 13-26r <br /> 1987 . Emphasis has been placed on an extensive I-40 corridor <br /> landscape plan prepared by NCDOT. Additional plantings will <br /> be installed and maintained by DOT if local governments and <br /> businesses will contribute toward costs of plant materials at <br /> interchanges which serve them. Many of the proposed plant- <br /> ings are intended to be permanent improvements to the land- <br /> scape. <br /> DOT has budgeted $137,000 for this project. To supplement <br /> state fundingr Durham County has contributed $40,000, and <br /> Wake County has budgeted $24,000. Since the portion of I-40 <br /> in Orange County will not be complete this summery the <br /> Olympic Festival Subcommittee has asked that Orange County <br /> consider sharing with Durham the cost of plantings at the 1- <br /> 40/15-501 interchange since it serves as an entryway to our <br /> county. Orange County' s share would amount to $10,000. <br />
