Due to the high concentration of population at this southern portion of <br /> the County, there is a need to maintain auxiliary or duplicate offices there. <br /> In order to best serve the people, the Social Service agencies need to be <br /> located in the heart of high population concentrations. <br /> L. OLD POLICE BUILDING <br /> This facility is rented by the County from the Town of Chapel Hill. The <br /> 14 report done in 1985 on the Old Police Building thoroughly investigates the <br /> potential uses of the building .and the site. <br /> w� After investigation of the building and <br /> � - g programming of the County agencies <br /> R� housed there, the CHR consultants concur with the following recommendations <br /> made in the 1985 report: <br /> m <br /> 1 . The space in the Old Police Building would not provide good organizational <br /> m-4 offices. <br /> 2. The Old Police Building is not recommended as <br /> space for the Town of Chapel Hill or Orange Countya site for staff office <br /> I___, 3. The site has a limited ability to provide acceptable vehicular and <br /> 1.4 pedestrian traffic. <br />'-' 4. 'Chapel Hill should consider renovating the Old Police Building for use as <br /> ^ a community building to be used by small groups. It is recommended that <br />�4 alternate space be found for the following County agencies currently <br /> L maintaining office space in the Old Police Building: <br /> Juvenile Court Existing: Old Police Building <br />-4 Counselor 740 sq. ft. • <br /> Recommended: Alternate space close to courthouse <br /> 250 sq. ft. <br /> Basis for • <br />-.4 Recommendations: <br /> The recommendation .was made in Section IV-A to locate the <br /> main office of this department in Hillsborough and <br /> ji <br /> maintain an auxiliary office in Chapel Hill. This <br /> auxiliary office should be located as close to the Chapel <br /> Hill Courthouse as possible and needs to be configured as <br /> 4 Page 26 <br />
