ORANGE C O U N T Y <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 055 <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date January 20. 1987 <br /> Action cnda <br /> Item # S <br /> SUBJECT: SET PUBLIC HEARING DATE FOR FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION <br /> ORDINANCE REVISIONS <br /> DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING Yes X No <br /> Attachment(s) Information Contact: GREG SZYMIK <br /> Summary of Changes to NFIP <br /> Recommended Response to Changes in NFIP <br /> Telephone Numbers <br /> Hillsborough -- 732-8181 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Mebane -- 227-2031 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> PURPOSE: Set a public hearing date to receive comments on revisions <br /> to the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. <br /> NEED: The County' s Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance must be <br /> revised to bring it into compliance with recent revisions to <br /> the National Flood Insurance Program Floodplain Management <br /> Criteria. <br /> IMPACT: On August 25 . 1986 . the Federal Emergency Management Agency <br /> (FEMA) published a final rule in the Federal Register which <br /> revises National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) floodplain <br /> management criteria. The final rule became effective on <br /> October 1. 1986. NFIP criteria require. as a condition for <br /> continued validity. that communities revise their floodplain <br /> management regulations to make them consistent with any <br /> revised NFIP regulation within six months of the effective <br /> date of that revision. Orange County will have to amend its <br /> regulation to comply with the August 25. 1986 final rule no <br /> later than April 1. 1987 . <br /> Topics affected by these revisions include: <br /> 1. Manufactured homes (formerly mobile homes) - <br /> definition changes. restrictions on location <br /> within flood prone area changes; <br /> 2. flood proofing of mechanical and utility equip- <br /> ment; <br />
