" RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES - <br /> 028 <br /> SCHOOL RELATED ACTIVITIES: <br /> To promote better understanding and awareness of County Government to the youth <br /> in our community, we propose the following: <br /> 1 . County officials will speak and/or present-demonstrations <br /> to classrooms on specific topics of interest. <br /> 2. Classroom tours of County facilities will be scheduled. <br /> GENERAL PROGRAM: <br /> 1. Prepare and distribute a pamphlet on Orange County Government. The folimplawg <br /> items will be included: <br /> (a) Directory of County agencies and services.. <br /> (b) Orange County Profile - date established; populations; number <br /> of registered voters; land area; county seat; other incorporated <br /> areas; location of County offices; public schools; public <br /> hospitals; health related facilities; public libraries; and <br /> points of interest. <br /> (c) Map noting location of County agencies. <br /> (d) Board of County Commissioners - names; photo; when they meet; <br /> and statement from the Chairman. <br /> (e) County Manager - name; photo; description of responsibilities. <br /> The pamphlets will be available at reception desks throughout County offices, and <br /> distributed to local government classes, news media, Welcome Wagon organizations, <br /> Chambers of Commerce, and other community groups. <br /> 2. Publicize "Orange County Government Week" through articles in area newspapers. <br /> 3. Develop and present a brief orientation to Orange County Government for the <br /> members of the many boards, commissions, and task force commit tees providing <br /> advisory servicies to the Board of County Commissioners.. Orientation sessions: <br /> will be scheduled during County Government Week for those members who wish to <br /> participate. <br /> 4. Host a special reception recognizing county volunteers and expressing <br /> appreciation for their valuable contributions. <br />
