Of this amount, DeKalb County received 5309,150, of
which $173,350, or 56. 1 percent, went to the county school board. The
county received over $374,000 in 1979 in personal property taxes "n air-
craft. Of this amount, 48 percent, or $180,000, was paid by DeKalb residents
who based their aircraft at PDK.
These revenues to DeKalb County are in addition to the revenues
generated by PDK. In 1979, the airport received $510,588 in revenues
primarily from lease rental payments which totaled $478,871, or 93.8 per-
cent of all revenues. Total expenditures in 1979 equalled $430,410; thus,
the airport authority realized an operating surplus of $80,178.
Based upon taxes and fees paid to DeKalb County and the operating
surplus realized, PDK produced over $389,000 for the operation of county
government and the county school system.
Neither DeKalb-Peachtree Airport staff nor the airport authority has
been given authorization to administer its funds as an independent agency.
The county provides these services. All revenues are paid to the county,
which handles all disbursements.
Another indication of the importance of the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport
is the amount and source of capita] investment at the facility. Capital
investment, whether by public, or private sources, indicates a long-term
confidence because of the large amounts of money involved and tl.t long life
of facilities. This is particularly true for private capital investment
since these funds are usually borrowed for terms of 10 to 30 years.
-24-
ASSOCIATIg
