•
, . - • „---_--- , .
Dann County,
The. pilot- survey found that 88.2 percent_of the total business trips
to PDK in 1979 were made because PDK was conveniently located to local
business offices._ This finding underscores two considerations. First,
a businessperson flying to Atlanta has an option of at least five airports.
It is likely that a person flying to PDK for business reasons will conduct
his or her affairs in the vicinity of the destination airport. Second,
because of the proximity of the heaviest concentration of suburban office
and industrial development in the metropolitan area (i.e. , that located
within the I-85/1-285 corridors) , the airport acts as a magnet for trips
and as a magnet for further private investment.
Though it would be unrealistic to expect all business trips to PDK
would-be oriented to DeKalb business locations, it is estimated that 70
percent of the business trips to PDK conduct their activities in DeKalb
County. Thus, it is estimated that the county received approximately 70
percent, or $2.3 million, of the total indirect impact stemming from PDK
activity in 1979.
Induced and Total Impact
The induced impact of PDK for DeKalb County is estimated to be a
multiplier of 2.25. It is not possible to allocate the secondary effects
as initial expenditures (primary impact) flow through the economy since
the individual- firms and employees who contribute to the induced impact are
not known. It is reasonable to assume that as each round of spending occurs,
the expenditures are made increasingly by persons outside DeKalb County.
The following table summarizes the primary, induced and total economic
impact of PDK on DeKalb County.
-21-
NAY 111111.SI LE 11.110 ROE ASSOCIATE&
