. ,
particular industry or collection of industries, as with an airport, in a
particular location requires the development of an extensive input/output
analysis. While that type of effort is outside the scope of this study,
multipliers have been developed for economic-impact studies of other air-
ports in the country. .
• - For example, the state of New Jersey used an overall multiplier factor
of 3.0 for a statewide study of general aviation airports. Massachusetts
developed an income multiplier of 2.8 for general aviation airports. In
1979, Sacramento County (California) Department of Airports used an income
multiplier of 2.46 and an employment multiplier of 4.73 for commercial and
general aviation airports. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association
recommends an income multiplier of 4.0 for general aviation transient
operations. The state of Washington used an income multiplier of 3.80 for
a statewide study of general aviation airports. In 1979, the Port of
Portland used a multiplier of 2.26 for income and employment. Based upon
these related studies, an income multiplier of 2.40 for PDK was
utilized.
As discussed earlier, the primary benefit of PDK to the Atlanta area
• is that portion of gross revenues which remain in the •lecal economy to
create income and e..loyment for the resident population_ Application of
the selected aultiplier to the previously calculated residual expenditures
yields an estimate of induced impact of $43,200,000.
The following table shows a total primary and induced economic impact
of PDK to be $74.1 million.
-19-
. maliviit.11 Lia.st °met ASIOCIATEI
