mmm=mmMWMEM
For purposes of estimating the importance of transient business
trips, the general aviation itinerant operations were examined. The sur-
vey of pilots found that 26 percent of itinerant operations during the
survey periods required the services of: an FBO._ Also, 97.8 percent of
those interviewed were on business trips. Thus, an estimated 18,000
business trips were made at PDK in 1979. Further, the survey found that
56.2 percent of those operations involving a business trip were transient
-- that is, were not based at PDK. Therefore, there were 10,100 transient
business trips using PDK in 1979. This estimate, of course, substantially
underestimates the total importance of PDK since it refers only to transient
business use. A large number of the approximately 448 based aircraft are
used by local business pilots to meet their travel requirements.
Each transient business trip included 2.53 passengers plus the pilot
which resulted in approximately 35,700 transient business visitors through
PDK in ./9-79, according to the pilot survey. Of the transient business
Visitors, 23.9 percent, or 8,500 persons, required overnight accommodations,
with the remainder of 27,200 being one-day visitors. The overnight busi-
ness visitors stayed an average of 1.5 days, resulting in 12,750 room-nights
of local hotel/motel -sales. Typical expenditures associated with transient
business trips included: $50/night for hotel or motel rooms; 535/day for
meals and incidentals; and $30/day for ground transportation.
The following table presents the estimated expenditures of transient
business visitors at PDK in 1979.
-17-
mAtiralE14.8ttElt.otameE its$0claktts
