However,
the following discussion provides an insight to the importance of the air-
port which is considered to be a reasonable, if conservative, estimate.
Economic impact may be described by two major components, employment
and income. Employment impacts reflect jobs attributable to an economic
activity. Income impacts reflect additional dollars flowing into the local
) •
economy because of purchases of other goods and services.
To systematically account for the components of economic impact, we
have used several terms. Primary impact is divided into direct and indirect
factors. Direct factors consist of the actual airport-related employment,
payroll and purchases by airport-related activities. Indirect factors in-
clude those expenditures which occur in the process of using aviation
facilities. Examples of indirect factors include expenditures by visitors .
to the local area and the attractiveness of the airport to local businesses.
•
The sum of direct and indirect factors is termed primary impact. '
• Induced impact describes the concept of the "multiplier effect" -- .
any dollar added to the economy in wages or other expenditures will be spent
and respent several times over. Each time the money is spent, it becomes
income for someone else. Multipliers are used by economists to determine
. .
the induced impact of money injected into an economy.
•
-9-
. wAssoita.viiiit.sEmE AssociatEs
•
