What is the aggregate payroll and. total volume <br /> of business represented by airport firms? <br /> • How many jobs depend directly upon airport opera- <br /> tions? <br /> . . <br /> . What tax benefits accrue to DeKalb County from <br /> airport activities? <br /> . Is the airport an essential element in the larger <br /> county economic development picture? <br /> Research, analyses and interviews were undertaken to document answers <br /> for these and other questions. Of particular importance, the relevance of <br /> PDK to DeKalb County economic development prospects was probed with a cross- <br /> ) section of business leaders. These executives -- many with corporate air- <br /> , <br /> craft, many with offices or plants in the county -- unanimously reinforced <br /> the airport's significance. Some expressed concern regarding the pace of <br /> improvements. Others hope for expansion to permit basing aircraft closer <br /> to DeKalb businesses and industries. All were convinced of the need for a <br /> continuing commitment by the county to maintain the highest levels of <br /> operational Safety. <br /> • <br /> The purpose of this report is to provide some dimension to the economic <br /> impact of PDK on the community. To accomplish this purpose, some assump- <br /> tions have been made to overcome gaps in available data. The net effect <br /> of these assumptions is to present a conservative estimate of the economic <br /> impact. No effort has been made to assess environmental impact. Similarly, <br /> no effort has been made to attach a value to the convenience and safety <br /> • offered by operation of the airport.
