What tax benefits accrue to DeKalb County from airport activities? . Is the airport an essential element in the larger county economic development picture? Research, analyses and interviews were undertaken to document answers for these and other questions. Of particular importance, the relevance of PDK to DeKalb County economic development prospects was probed with a cross- ) section of business leaders. These executives -- many with corporate air- , craft, many with offices or plants in the county -- unanimously reinforced the airport's significance. Some expressed concern regarding the pace of improvements. Others hope for expansion to permit basing aircraft closer to DeKalb businesses and industries. All were convinced of the need for a continuing commitment by the county to maintain the highest levels of operational Safety. • The purpose of this report is to provide some dimension to the economic impact of PDK on the community. To accomplish this purpose, some assump- tions have been made to overcome gaps in available data. The net effect of these assumptions is to present a conservative estimate of the economic impact. No effort has been made to assess environmental impact. Similarly, no effort has been made to attach a value to the convenience and safety • offered by operation of the airport.
