` +,, APPENDIX A
MEMORANDUM
TO: Orange County Airport Issues Task Force
FROM: John E. Hunter
DATE: June 3, 1987; August 19, 1987
RE: Revenue Data I Volunteered to Obtain
I have contacted several national aviation organizations but have
been unable to come up with the specific revenue data which I had
hoped to obtain. The most concrete data did come from the AOPA
(Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) . The AOPA sent a whole
packet of materials, one of which i have reproduced and appended to
this memo to give us an idea of what kinds of factors are generally
examined.
The item reproduced is an "Economic Impact Study" prepared by a
professional consulting firm for the Dekalk--Peachtree Airport in
1980. It is a carefully worded study documenting the positive
economic influence that the airport has on the community. I
enclosed this document as an example of what an Orange County
airport could aspire to if properly managed.
become the hub that ATL g • While RDT7 may not
parallels are clear. Orange County would be a prime contender for the reliever
airport in this area (with the Holly Springs location the prime
competitor) and there would be 4 additional small airports within
20 miles of this area.
I have also telephoned and spoken to officials of the Airport
O erators Council international, Inc.
Association of Airport Executives . j and the American
specific information which they could Ns d with gregard 1to airport
revenues. Each stressed how different each individual airport
situation was with regard to revenues. However, I was able to get
a good feel for some common practices to generate revenue.
1. The fundamental and essential key to generating revenues
is to develop businesses at the airport .
repair shop, Attracting an
aggressive re hop
p , or an overhaul
industrial facility, shop, or a light
base operator) is essential. an aggressive FBO (fixed
2.
