Y7■ 4 <br /> QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ON <br /> HEALTH YOURSELF" <br /> ORANGE COUNTY'S EMPLOYEE SHALTH PROMOTION PROGRAM <br /> - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - <br /> 1. What is a health promotion program? <br /> A program to help identify personal health risks that might lead <br /> to injury, illness or chronic disease. It can improve employees' <br /> energy level and morale by helping them to stop smoking, develop <br /> , better eating and exercise habits, lose weight, manage stress, <br /> and increase safety practices at work and home. <br /> 2. How can it help my department? <br /> By improving the way a person feels, this program can help job <br /> performance and attitude of employees. It may also decrease the <br /> number of job-related injuries and sick days taken by employees. <br /> 3. How much work time will be involved? <br /> Program participants will have an initial screening session <br /> (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, iron, diet analysis, % <br /> body fat and exercise testing) which will take 11/2. hours. A follow- <br /> up session for interpretation of test results, counseling/ and <br /> planning activities will take 30 minutes. Six months after en- <br /> rollment, employees will be rescreened for targeted health areas <br /> in a 30 minute session. <br /> 4. What can I do to help? <br /> The manager for each department may best support this program by: <br /> 1) Being a role model and personally participating in the program. <br /> 2) Encouraging all part and full time employees to enroll. <br /> 3) Designating at least one person in the department to serve on <br /> a provider action committee (PAC) that meets monthly. Duties <br /> will include being a link to the department to distribute news- <br /> letters, put up fliers, inform staff of upcoming seminars and <br /> special activities. They will also bring back your depart <br /> ment's ideas and reactions to the providers of the program. <br /> This person will be involved in a meeting scheduled for Thurs- <br /> day, November 19th at 2:00 to plan for a "Health YourseW <br /> kickoff meeting for the program. <br /> 5. Who are the providers of the health promotion program? <br /> The Orange County Health Department, the Agricultural Extension <br /> Service, the Recreation and Parks Department, OPC Mental Health, <br /> the County Manager, and one representative from each county de- <br /> partment. <br />
