•
4'•
2
3. Data on airport revenue and extense. Questionnaire 3 should be
completed by the airport mana.ser.
•
4. Data on other industries located at airport. Questionnaire 4
should be distributed to the head of each industrial/butineas
orgaaization located at the airport or adjacent industrial park.
5. Data on tourism and convention business. Questionnaire 5 should
be completed by the a.- opriate local government organization (if -
in existence) or by the local Chamber of Commerce or similar organi-
.
zation. •
6. Data on economic expansion. Questionnaire 6 should be completed by
the local Industrial Development Commission or similar public body.
Alternatively, the data may be available through the Chamber of
C--erce or similar organization.
The Questionnaires can be modified to account for any unique local
situation. We believe, however, that all the essential elements are
covered in the survey. It will provide basic data on direct employment ,
local goods and services purchased, and tax revenues generated. It will
also provide data from which you can determine the airport 's role as:
(1) a stimulus to tourism, (2) en attraction to new business and industry,
and (3) the indirect contribution to the total area economy.
We have tried to limit the data collection because all data collected
will have to be aggregated and analyzed. Local college and universities
may be helpful if automatic data processing is required. Students might
be interested in the statistical work at a reasonable price.
Finally, publish the data and related analyses. In preparing the final
copy, you may want to involve t free-lance writer or newsman. By all
means, prepare a summary highlighting the dramatic contributions of
aviation. And make sure that the information gets the widest possible
circulation. The 1'411 study should be available to all who want a copy.
Summary pamphlets should be widely distributed, throughout the oommunity.
A press conference to release the data is a good idea. .
If possible, do not let the study be just a one time effort. Some person
or group could monitor developments at the airport and issue additional
material as changes occur. A new industry, increased flight schedules,
a new operator - all these reflect the continuing contributlon of aviation
to the community.
• • ,
