<br /> PROCLAMATION
<br /> WHEREAS, the week of October 7 - 13, 1984, has been designated as National
<br /> Employ the Handicapped Week; and
<br /> .
<br /> WHEREAS, significant progress has been made in our community in the reha-
<br /> bilitation of our handicapped citizens so that they can experience
<br /> L - the satisfaction of gainful employment and increased personal in-
<br /> dependence; and .
<br /> WHEREAS, these same disabled people, when employed at a level commensurate
<br /> with their abilities and ambitions, return in tax revenues many
<br /> times the original amount spent on their rehabilitation; and
<br /> WHEREAS, our handicapped fellow citizens have repeatedly demonstrated their
<br /> skills in all walks of life and have made significant contributions
<br /> to every facet of our community life, and are most worthy of our
<br /> commendation and encouragement;
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul M. Cox, Mayor of the City of New Bern, do hereby .
<br /> proclaim the week of October 7 - 13, 1984, as; •NATIONAL EMPLOY THE HANDICAPPED WEEK .•. .
<br /> in our City, urging all citizens, firms and businesses to join with
<br /> me in a renewed effort to provide increased opportunities for
<br /> vocational training and employment for handicapped persons, as a
<br /> demonstration of our commitment to the principles of equality and
<br /> justice on which our society is founded.
