O R A N G E COUNTY 17t
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date NOYEMB R_.34 1986
Action Agenda
Item lf
SUBJECT; 1 -40 Corridor Study Questionnaire
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING Yes X No
Attachment(s) Information Contact; BRAD TORGAN
GENE BELL
Questionnaire
Telephone Numbers +
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Durham - 688-7331
Mebane - 227-2031
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
PURPOSE : To inform the Board of efforts to design a questionnaire for
obtaining input from 1 -40 corridor property owners .
The questionnaire was reviewed by the Planning Board at its
Long Range meeting on October 14, 1986.
NEED: Citizen input and involvement is critical to the success of any
land use planning effort. The questionnaire is a first step in
the process of trying to determine how property owners In the
1 -40 corridor feel about a variety of land use issues . 1 ,866
individual properties have been identified as lying the 1 -40
corridor. 407 multiple property owners have been deleted which
leaves 1 ,459 owners who will receive questionnaires .
IMPACT: The questionnaire will provide a means for direct involvement
of property owners in the study area as well as notifying them
that the study is being conducted . A concern often expressed
by citizens at public meetings and hearings is that they didn 't
know about the planning effort or had no chance for involve,-
ment. It is hoped the questionnaire will address both of these
concerns .
RECOMMENDATION: Board approval of the questionnaire with any changes or
corrections deemed necessary.
