-3- <br /> These regulations were implemented and several conservation and stream- <br /> flow reduction levels were activated during the past months. The stream <br /> flows were managed with varying degrees of success, but required a significant <br /> amount of daily activity from the assistant Orange County !Manager_ As <br /> s. <br /> a solution to the daily management difficulties, a siebn made of 6 inch plastic <br /> pipe has been made and installed which is supposed to <br /> provide a controlled 'release from Lake Ben Johnson of •1.7 cfs_ It has yet to <br /> a.few <br /> operate successfully for more than hours at a time. It is planned that the <br /> entire flow of the Eno River'at Hillsborough will be supplied through this <br /> siphon made of 6 inch plastic pipe with up to a 3 foot draw down in the water <br /> level back of the dam. <br /> Resoultions to Difficulties: <br /> More Water <br /> An effort has just been started to study and obtain consensus on a new water <br /> impoundment site on the upper Eno River. Whatever the decision is, it will <br /> take 10-15 years to implement. - <br /> In the interim, the only choice is to purchase water from adjacent <br /> municipalities to augment the existing supply in the amounts necessary-to meet <br /> the present and new water supply demand generated from the numerous new <br /> housing subdivisions, not yet built, but approved with agreements to supply <br /> water and sewer services. <br /> The Orange Water and Sewer Authority has requested amounts up to 1.5 mgd or <br /> 2.3 cfs for the next 3 years until their new Cane Creek reservoir can be built. <br /> They may, however, be able to purchase this amount from Durham when Durham's <br /> new Little River reservoir at Orange Factory comes on line next spring. <br /> Hillsborough has made efforts to get agreements for water supply from - - <br /> Burlington, Mebane, and Graham, but technical and jurisdictional difficulties <br />
