(KCI) is pleased to submit this proposed scope of work to Orange County <br /> (County)to conduct a two-season Waste Composition Study(WCS) of waste generated within the <br /> County for disposal. The purpose of the WCS is to provide useful information regarding the types and <br /> percentages of various materials, including recyclable materials, currently being disposed to compare <br /> with previous study data and to assist in developing future solid waste and resource management <br /> programs. <br /> The WCS will include waste generated within Samples will be pulled and sorted for three <br /> the following jurisdictions: generator sectors: <br /> • Chapel Hill • Single-Family Residential <br /> • Hillsborough • Multi-Family Residential <br /> • Carrboro • Commercial <br /> • Unincorporated County <br /> • University of North Carolina (possibly <br /> included) <br /> KCI proposes to conduct two,five-day sorting events, one in the fall and the other in the spring. This <br /> scope of work assumes that the County will assist with or arrange for the items listed below. We are <br /> happy to discuss and adjust these assumptions as needed, and modify this scope of work accordingly. <br /> (1) Coordinate with staff at the municipalities and the University of North Carolina (UNC). <br /> (2) Initiate dialogue between selected private local hauler(s) and KCI staff. <br /> (3) Work with Waste Industries to secure a location of sufficient size to conduct the sorting event <br /> and use of a bobcat/loader and operator for pulling samples at the transfer station. <br /> (4) Assist in coordinating the rerouting of any target vehicles to the transfer station. <br /> Provided below are the tasks and activities envisioned to complete the WCS and provide statistically <br /> valid results. <br /> ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ <br /> 14620 N.
