Important safety clothing items include:
• Over-the-ankle boots (hard plastic shanks and steel toes recommended); .Q
• Tyvek® or poly-lined coveralls;
• Cotton work clothes, including long trousers (not shorts) worn under coveralls;
• Chemical-resistant outer gloves;
• Inner liner gloves to ensure that no solid or liquid waste contacts the hands when putting
on and removing the outer gloves;
• Safety glasses or face shields;
• Safety vest;
• Hard hat (if necessary);
• Filter masks (optional); and
• Ear plugs (optional).
Sorters are responsible for providing their own cotton work clothes and safety boots. All other
safety equipment will be provided by Kessler Consulting, Inc. Safety and protective equipment
worn during sorting activities must not be worn off the site to eliminate the possibility of
contaminating sorters' automobiles and homes. The Sort Supervisor will ensure that personal
protective equipment is worn at all times during waste sorting activities.
Natural fiber clothing such as cotton should be worn under poly-lined coveralls during warm
weather to reduce the risk of heat stress. Synthetic materials,which do not absorb moisture, can
prevent the cooling effect of perspiration evaporation. For added protection against cuts, bruises,
and puncture wounds, sorters must wear long trousers, not shorts, under protective coveralls.
Ikessll it consulting inc.
WCS\Planning\Site Safety Plan Page 3 of 11 innovative waste solutions
