Harrington ,,--- <br /> SUBJECT: Public Meetings to Update Transportation Improvement Program <br /> Governor Martin, the Board of Transportation and I invite you to attend and <br /> participate in a public meeting to update our Transportation Improvement Program. <br /> We have scheduled a series of 15 public meetings to obtain advice from local <br /> officials and citizens on needed highway improvements in their area. This advice <br /> is carefully considered by our Board of Transportation Members when they update <br /> our Program and they depend on your participation at these meetings, We need <br /> your appearance at these meetings in order to have accurate transcript of all <br /> discussions and presentations. A copy of our statewide schedule is attached <br /> for your information. <br /> We believe the Transportation Improvement Program is a positive approach to <br /> scheduling all types of transportation improvements and we need your help in <br /> assisting us in keeping it viable and responsive. Although the TIP hearing <br /> process has always been important, perhaps its importance is heightened this <br /> year by the instabill it y of federal hi hwa di nd a shortage <br /> hi as funds iso, as we ;ave done in prior of St we concerning 1a rport, public transportation, rail yand sbicycle come your <br /> area. <br /> If it is not convenient for you to attend one of these scheduled meetings, <br /> you may wish to coordinate your priorities with other officials of your area and <br /> present a combined priority listing of all projects that your area would like <br /> for our Board of Transportation to consider. If you cannot attend the meeting <br /> in your area, please send your recommendations in priority order to Mr. George <br /> Wells, State Highway Administrator, North Carolina Department of Transportation, <br /> P. 0.
