35 <br /> 11 <br /> "The commercial area shall contain no more , <br /> sgare feet of floor space in either one high than vo30lume 000 <br /> retail establishment or .a series of small "boutique-type <br /> stores, plus proportional service and parking areas. <br /> The remaining land previously designated as commercial <br /> floor space shall be maintained in buffers both between <br /> the shoppoing area and U.S. 70 and between the shopping <br /> area and the multi-family housing." <br /> Best commented that Collins had advised him that the <br /> suggested floor area is that required for a supermarket. <br /> MOTION: Best moved the wording . suggested by Jacobs. Pilkey <br /> seconded the motion. <br /> Jacobs indicated that this condition is an attempt to <br /> address traffic impacts. <br /> Shanklin expressed concern that the limitation to one <br /> major store 'would not allow for the inclusion of other <br /> uses associated with a neighborhood shopping center. <br /> He added that the development as proposed Is balanced. <br /> Lewis noted that the facility is anchored by a large <br /> retail facility. He expressed concern that this <br /> proposal would force the residents of Scotswood to drive <br /> to other commercial areas. <br /> VOTE: 5 in favor (Jacobs, Margison, Pilkey, Hubbard, Best) <br /> 4 opposed (Yuhasz, Shanklin, Lewis, Walters) <br /> Barry Jacobs indicated he wished to insert a written <br /> statement into the record. He summarized the statement <br /> found on pages of these minutes. <br /> MOTION; Lewis moved to continue the meeting to consider items 71 <br /> and D . Yuhasz seconded the motion. <br /> VOTE: 4 in favor(Shanklin, Yuhasz, Walters, Lewis) <br /> 5 opposed (Hubbard, Best, Pilkey, Margison, Jacobs) <br /> Motion failed. <br /> The meeting adjourned at 11 :30. <br />
