4 <br /> classrooms on the agenda for approval, additional mobile classrooms will <br /> be needed within the next few years. <br /> The capital needs for the next five to ten years include <br /> increasing the size of the existing elementary school facilities to <br /> handle the increase in student population at a cost of $5,000,000, <br /> increasing the square foot space at the junior high schools at a cost of <br /> $900,000, and $850,000 for the high school renovations that would <br /> provide additional classrooms. <br /> The total cost for all the projects would be $11,750,000. The <br /> estimates do not include any new facilities but only renovation of <br /> existing buildings. She noted that the Board of Education last year <br /> endorsed a bond issue as an alternative for funding. <br /> THERE BEING NO FURTHER COMMENTS, THE HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br /> F. JAIL INSPECTION REPORT DATED MARCH 25, 1986 (A complete copy of the <br /> report is in the permanent agenda file in the Clerk's Office. ) <br /> Chief Cook presented the results of the report to the Board. Chair <br /> Willhoit commended the Sheriff and his department on the report noting <br /> a continued significant improvement in the reports. <br /> G. ITEMS FOR DECISION <br /> 1. MOBILE CLASSROOM UNITS FOR CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO CITY SCHOOLS <br /> Motion was made by Commissioner Walker, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Marshall to approve the resolution printed below assuring <br /> Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools that funds in an amount to purchase <br /> two mobile classroom units will be appropriated in the 1986-87 County <br /> budget for school current capital. <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools are in need of <br /> three mobile classroom units, and <br /> WHEREAS, the purchase order for the mobile classroom units needs <br /> to be issued this spring to allow the necessary lead time <br /> for delivery of the units for the beginning of school <br /> next fall, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Education approved a budget amendment to <br /> purchase one mobile classroom unit from the contingency <br /> account in the 1985-86 Capital Outlay Fund, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools have requested that <br /> the Orange County Board of Commissioners appropriate at <br /> least $66,000 for the purchase of the two remaining units <br /> in the 1986-87 County budget, and <br /> WHEREAS, The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools need the assurance <br /> from the Orange County Board of Commissioners that the <br /> funds will be appropriated before issuing the purchase <br /> order for three mobile classroom units. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners <br /> assures the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools that at <br /> least $66,000 will be appropriated for the purchase of <br /> two mobile classroom units in the 1986-87 County budget. <br /> Adopted this 22nd day of April, 1986. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />
