APR 2 1 Re
419 North Elm Street / Greensboro, North Carolina 27401-2172 / (919)272-5115
Architects
Engineers
Planners April 18, 1986
( '
C Dr. Dan G. Lunsford, Superintendent
Orange County Schools
200 East King Street
( Hillsborough, N.C. 27278
Re: Orange County High School
Additions and Renovations
Dear Dr. Lunsford,
It is a genuine pleasure to advise you that low bids
received for the above project are well within the
estimated cost that we provided for you.
This was one of the most difficult projects possible to
adequately document. It also was extremely difficult for
contractors to bid, so many of them have told me. Three
general contractors obviously wanted the project since
their bids are so close.
In view of the long, hard task of your staff and our firm,
hard work and patient cooperation have now paid off.
It is our recommendation that you take advantage of this
( ' hard work and resulting good prices and award the entire
project, including all alternates.
If alternates are dropped they will be much more expensive
when new bids are received. The alternates have now been
considered as a part of start—up, management and bulk
purchases and will never be as economical on a segmented
re—bid in the future.
Also the conflicts of operating the school during
construction will be dealt with in one thrust if all work
C is completed together.
A number of separate construction projects will definitely
strain the quality of education offered.
J.Hyatt Hammond,FAIA/John G.PaPPaa,AIA/Raymond M.Haolar,P.E.,AIA/W.A.Hammond,P.E./Jeral T.Boone.AIA
Walter C.Mu*,Jr.,Ala
