Report <br /> OBJECTIVES : - To determine what services need to be available in <br /> Orange County; the priority of these services; whether <br /> these services are currently available; and the adequacy <br /> of the, current level of services. <br /> - To assist funders in allocating resources and agencies <br /> in developing services.. <br /> PROCEDURE: - The United Way of America Services Information System II <br /> was used as the basis for services categories and descrip- <br /> tions, and adapted by the committee.. 138 .Services were <br /> listed. <br /> - Human Services Boards were selected as the most knowledge- <br /> able group. 60 boards were surveyed, consisting of 771 <br /> unduplicated. people. <br /> - 197 individuals were sent. surveys; 112 responded, for a <br /> response rate of 57%. <br /> - Survey recipients were asked to rate priority of services <br /> Low, Medium, High, or NO Opinion. They were asked to rate <br /> Availability/Adequacy: Not Available; Available, Service <br /> Level Inadequate; Available, Service Level Adequate; or <br /> Don't Know. <br /> PRELIMINARY RESULTS: <br /> Priorities.: <br /> -. For top 25 priority } services see attached sheet. <br /> - 16 of the top 25 are services related to children. <br /> - 7 of the, top 25 are health services. <br /> - The percentage responding "No Opinion" on priority ranged from <br /> 3% to 27%. There is no immediately observable pattern related to <br /> priority ranking. <br /> - The 3 lowest priority services were all related to assistance 'to <br /> foreigners, and newcomers in adjusting to the community. <br /> Perceived Availability/Adequacy: <br /> - Three services given top priority were rated at the bottom of <br /> Availability/Adequacy: <br /> - Emergency shelter for children rated llth highest priority; 11th <br /> lowest in availability <br /> - Low to moderate income housing loans was rated 21st priority; <br /> 3rd lowest in availability. <br /> - Help for special groups in finding jobs was rated 22nd in <br /> priority; 13th in availability. . <br /> - The highest priority service, "Protection of children from abuse <br /> and neglect" was rated 101. of 138 in availability. <br /> -The percentage responding "Don't Know Availability/Adequacy" ranged from <br /> 13% to 55%. They knew most about Libraries, Public Transportation and <br /> Summer Camps for children. <br /> -Respondents tended to be least knowledgeable on lowest prioity services . <br /> April 7 , 1986 <br />
