ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Action Agenda <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Item No. O_ <br /> Meeting Date: MARCH 18, 1986 <br /> SUBJECT: DRAFT JOINT PLANNING AREA LAND USE PLAN <br /> DEPARTMENT: COMMISSIONERS PUBLIC HEARING: _Yes X No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: DON WILLHOIT <br /> CHAIR, X505 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> NONE Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider whether the Board wishes to ask the three planning <br /> boards to make a revision regarding the New Hope 1/40 Inter- <br /> section in view of the lack of public support thus far expressed <br /> to the light industrial designation proposal for that location. <br /> NEED: The draft Joint Planning Area Land Use Plan was presented at <br /> Public Hearing on January 14, 1986. Since that meeting, three <br /> public information meetings have been held. These were held at <br /> Union Grove Church, the New Hope Improvement Association, and <br /> Culbreth Junior High School in January, March 11, and March 12 <br /> respectively. The dominant theme at these meetings has been <br /> resistance to designation of the industrial node. There appears <br /> sufficient justification at this point to remove this proposal <br /> from further consideration. <br /> IMPACT: Removing industrial designation from the New Hope Church Road/I- <br /> 40 interchange on the existing draft plan map, and any other <br /> plan alternative maps to be presented at the April 17 public <br /> hearing, will help to promote greater public discussion of other <br /> features of the plan. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Ask the three planning boards to consider making this revision <br /> when they meet March 26, 1986. <br />
