To explore the meanings of interdependence, as well as <br /> individuality through cooperation; to escape the confines of <br /> life styles bounded by competitiveness and lonely striving; to <br /> create a social environment rather than merely react to or cope <br /> with an asocial environment; to address the challenge of <br /> creating an environment'which enables both children and adults <br /> to maximize creativity, effective social responsibility-taking, <br /> and capacities for joy; and to build a community which supports <br /> and nurtures both individuals and familial units rather than _ <br /> pulling them into competition and isolation. <br /> J. To buy, sell, lease, mortgage, pledge, exchange, improve, <br /> build, operate, maintain and generally deal in real properties, <br /> improved or unimproved, and any right and interest therein. <br /> K. To purchase, import, manufacture, or otherwise acquire, <br /> hold, develop, improve, sell, mortgage, borrow, pledge, lease, <br /> rent, or otherwise acquire and dispose of goods, wares, merchan- <br /> dise, personal property, services, and choses in action of every <br /> kind and description. <br /> L. To carry on and conduct any other activities, which <br /> directly or indirectly may promote the interest of the corporation, <br /> and generally to have and exercise all of the rights, powers and <br /> privileges which are now or hereafter may be conferred by the <br /> laws of the State of North Carolina under cooperative associations <br /> organized and operating under the laws of said state. <br /> Article II. <br /> Membership <br /> 1. Eligibility. The members of the corporation shall <br /> be those persons named in the Articles of Incorporation, who <br /> are the initial subscribers of the corporation stock. Member- <br /> ship in the corporation can be obtained by virtue of acquisition <br /> of stock in accordance with the provisions of Article VII, <br /> paragraph 5 hereof. Other persons interested in the purposes <br /> of the corporation shall be eligible for membership, but shall <br /> become members only if selected unanimously by the membership <br /> of the corporation. <br /> 2 <br />
