A
H HAZEN AN D SAWYER P.c.
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
II
February 18, 1986
Mr. Kenneth R. Thompson _
Orange County Manager
106 East Margaret Lane
Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278
Re: Efland-Cheeks Township
Sanitary Sewer Facilities
H&S Job. No. 3600
Dear Mr. Thompson:
Based on a recent field survey and a visual observation of
the existing Hillsborough sewer system directly affected by the
interconnection with the Efland system, it is apparent the
section of line immediately north of King Street to the manhole
south of Eno Street is currently overloaded and could not take
any additional flow from the proposed Efland sewer system.
Hazen and Sawyer evaluated the various options available for
relieving the overload condition on this section of line and also
allowing for the additional flow from the Efland system. The
options and estimated costs (construction plus engineering) for
those options are as follows:
OPTION, NO. 1 $85, 000
This option leaves the existing design of the proposed
Efland system unchanged, and provides for paralleling the
existing Hillsborough sewer system immediately north of King
Street to the manhole south of Eno Street. The County should be
aware that there still remains the potential of having to upgrade
the upper section of the existing Hillsborough system between
Lakeshore Drive and King Street at an estimated cost of $95,000.
The time frame for this upgrade is variable, depending on the
growth in the Efland area and the Town of Hillsborough.
OPTION, NO. 2 $ 65,000
This option extends the 8-inch force main down West Hill
Avenue south of the railroad tracks, east to the 21-inch
interceptorlin the existing Hillsborough system. This option
eliminates the sewer in Orange Heights at an estimated reduction
of $55, 500.
4300 GLENWOOD AVENUE•P.O.BOX 30428•RALEIGH,NORTH CAROLINA 27622•(919)782-8333
OFFICES IN NEW YORK RALEIGH.AND HOLLYWOOD,FLORIDA
