084
•
DRAFT PB MINUTES 1-27-89
5
North Carolina , engineers , soil specialists and
others have slowed progress on the project . The
initial six month approval is inadequate to allow the
applicant to obtain necessary approvals and commence .
construction . The applicants are requesting a six
•
month extension from January 1 , 1986 .
Approval of the time extensions would allow
additional time for the satisfaction of conditions of
approval imposed and additional development permits
and approvals required for construction to begin .
A decision not to approve the time extensions would
require that a public hearing be held on the rezoning
of thecproperty in question to an appropriate zoning
Planning Staff is recommending extension of the
planned development rezon'ings for the . West Ten Mobile
Home Park for (B) month from January 1 , 1986 to
allow additional time to obtain appropriate permits
and approvals and to initiate construction activity .
MOTION : Kizer moved approval of a six—month extension .
Seconded by Shanklin .
Darrell Garret , developer , informed the Board that he
feels that he will be able to begin contraction
within the six—month extension period .
Jacobs inquired if Less than six months would be a
reasonable amount of time . Mr . Garrett responded
that he felt the first period of time should have
been twelve months , rather than six months, due to
the other agencies who must be dealt with . He felt
he would need the six month extension .
Shanklin noted that he felt the request for a six
month extension was reasonable .
Smith stated that from a staff point of view this was
a reasonable request given that conditions were
unlikely to change during the period .
Kizer noted that the applicant was within his rights
to request a six months extension so Long as he made
the request before expiration of the current permit .
With no change in conditions , there is no reason not
to grant the extension .
VOTE: Unanimous .
