15t <br /> REcommENDED Ac ivimS <br /> . <br /> School Related Activities: 4 <br /> To promote Metter understanding and awareness of County Government <br /> to the youth in our community, we propose the following: <br /> 1. Selected County officials will speak and/or present demonstrations <br /> to classrooms on specific topics of interest. <br /> 2. Request that local school children prepare drawings of <br /> types of services provided by the county. These will <br /> be on display in county buildings throughout the week. <br /> 3. Voluntary essay competitions for high school students. <br /> Each will be asked to write a one-page essay on the importance <br /> of Citizens being involved in county government. <br /> I <br /> Genera] Program: <br /> 1. Prepare and distribute a pamphlet on Orange County Government. <br /> The following items will be included: <br /> (a) Directory of County agencies and services. <br /> (b) Orange County Profile - date established; populations; <br /> number of registered voters; land area; county seat; <br /> other incorporated areas; location of County offices; <br /> public schools; public hospitals; health related facilities; <br /> public libraries; and points of interest. <br /> (c) Map noting location of County agencies. <br /> (d) Board of County Commissioners - names; photo; when they <br /> meet; and statement from the Chairman. <br /> (e) County Manager -- name; photo; description of responsibilities. <br /> The pamphlets will be available at reception desks throughout County <br /> offices, and ( distributed to local government classes, news media, <br /> Welcome Wagon organizations, Chambers of Commerce, and other community <br /> groups. <br /> 2. Publicize "Orange County Government Week" Through articles in area <br /> newspapers. <br /> 3. Host a special reception recognizing county volunteers and <br /> expressing appreciation for their valuable contributions. <br /> 1 <br />
