MARVIN COLLINS ,PLANNING DIRECTOR <br /> DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 1985 <br /> SUBJECT: NCDOT LOGO SIGN PROGRAM <br /> On October 11 , TJCOG held an 1-40 Corridor workshop . <br /> A representative of NCDOT reviewed the status of the Logo Sign <br /> Program , the major points of which are as follows : <br /> 1: 1 . Program has been expanded to all fully controlled <br /> access highways not just interstates . <br /> • 2. Program will allow businesses which qualify to pay <br /> up front and obtain ahead of NCDOT installation schedule . <br /> S . Current policy is for NCDOT to pay up front and <br /> business pays back over 10 years at no interest . <br /> 4. Giant panels cost $2,500 each -- two are installed <br /> per interchange for each category of service . <br /> Directional panels cost $1 , 700 each — two are installed <br /> at each interchange exit per service category . <br /> 5 . Limitations on eligibility are: <br /> Gas stations -- within 1 mile of interchange <br /> Food/Lodging — within 3 miles of interchange <br /> Lodging — within 5 miles of interchange <br /> G . If existing panel is full and new business is closer <br /> than business whose logo is on sign , new business can <br /> "bump " ', or cause to have logo removed . Only exception to <br /> this is a business which is willing to pay up front — <br /> bonus is promise never to be "bumped" . <br /> 7 . Logo signs are not allowed in built—up urban areas <br /> ( 25 , 000 population or greater) even if business is <br /> willing to pay for . If a Logo sign is erected in a <br />
