Current policy is for NCDOT to pay
for the cost of installation of such signs when
installed in accordance with the NCDOT schedule .
Businesses whose names appear on the LOGO signs
then have 10 years within which to pay back the
installation cost — at no interest .
Given the extended installation schedule , NCDOT
amended the sign program to permit the
installation of LOGO signs ahead of its schedule .
IMPACT: Businesses which qualify may pay upfront for the
installation of the LOGO signs ahead of the State
schedule . All businesses whose logos appear on
the signs would split the installation and
maintenance costs .
A tlypical. intersection installation consisting of
two panels and two directional signs accomodating
up to six Logos would cost approximately $8 , 000 .
The LOGO or traveler information signs may also
be 'i used on all controlled—access highways , not
just Interstates . The installation program is
further intended for non—urban areas and will not
be used within the limits of cities having a
population of 25 ,000 or more .
RECOMMENDATION :
Authorize County staff to inform the businesses of the early
installation option and terms
