tut.
THE SATURDAY SO M. FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
DURUM TN}IN I CAL I NSx I'IUIti
Recipient of the 1985 Creative and Innovative. Program Award
fran the
North Carolina Adult Education Association
The Saturday School for Senior Citizens offered by Durham Technical
Institute in cooperation with the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Community Schools and the
Orange County Department of Aging is a new, creative, and innovative model for
special program for senior citizens. The purpose of the program is to provide
high quality courses at a low cost to meet the interest and needs of senior
citizens living in the Chapel Hill area.
The program provides an excellent example of several agencies working
together for a cannon cause. The programs are offered at a convenient time for
the participants and at a location exclusively dedicated to this program and
easily accessible. A comprehensive list of courses is being offered including
computers, financial planning, writing reminiscences, as well as several others.
The quality of the program may be measured by the fact that enrollment more
than doubled in one semester. In addition, the attrition rate was less than
10%. The participants gave the program a highly positive rating.
The North Carolina Adult Education Association is pleased to present the
Creative and Innovative Program Award to the Saturday School for Senior Citizens
of Durham Technical Institute.
