The objective was to find out how the students felt about the <br /> program designs their instructor rating, whether they actually learnec? any- <br /> thing and any suggestions and comments. All the evaluations turned in indi- <br /> cated that the program met or exceeded their expectations , they enjoye <br /> getting out and being around other people their age in a stimulating e!iorn- . <br /> ment. ,Many askedwhen they cound sign up for the next session: <br /> Positive results are indicated by the sizable increase in artici <br /> older adults - from 24 students and two classes in the fall of 1984tito 7y <br /> students and fivel�classes in the fall of 1985. In one year the eirollment <br /> jumped to over 300%. All advertised classes were held and attrition through- <br /> out the program has been extremely low for community education classes - j_ess <br /> than 10%. With increased enrollment came additional class fees which hava <br /> covered all costs incurred by the agencies except administration . <br /> Through the coordinated publicity efforts of the-so <br /> program received notoriety with many newspaper articlesrand guest appeare ma <br /> on local television stations. The cooperative spirit between the three ces <br /> agency 's staff was a strong factor in the program' s success and perhaps was <br /> the most positive program. results. <br /> The Saturday School for Seniors has helped to promote the idea "that public <br /> schools are not just a learning place for children, but can be used for all <br /> ages including senior citizens. " <br /> In the fall of 1985 , the Saturday School for Senior Citizens received the <br /> North Carolina Adult Education (NCAEA) Award for the most creative and <br /> innovative program ' of the year (See attached Citation to DTI member of <br /> NCAEA) .
