, <br /> Report from the Needs Assessment Survey of Orange County Nnmen°on/ <br /> SEXUAL ASSAULT <br /> In a random sample survey of 219 women in Orange County, <br /> 6% said they, themselves, had been sexually asoaulted' <br /> 13% said they knew someone who had been sexually assaulted in <br /> Orange County. <br /> 33% said they knew someone who had been sexually assaulted. <br /> Comparing sexual assault and demographic variables, no relationship <br /> was found between either race and sexual assault, or income and sexual <br /> assault, <br /> 43% of all the women who have been assaulted in Orange County in the last <br /> five years have used the Rape Crisis Center, and all (100%) of those <br /> who used it found that it was helpful in dealing with the problem. <br /> When asked what other interventions would have helped more, almost half <br /> the women responding recommehded counseling services. Other suggestions <br /> included pressing charges, more family support, and improving the legal process <br /> which deals with sexual assault victims. <br /> * Conducted by the Orange County Women's Center.
