This decline in agricultural employment <br /> parallels similar trends throughout the Triangle J Region and North Carolina. <br /> f,- <br /> The government sector grew by 59%, representing the largest increase in <br /> employment in any sector, as well as absorbing the largest percentage of <br /> employed County residents 46.3% . <br /> Less than 9.3% of employment was in manufacturing compared with 19.8% in <br /> the Region and 32.2% statewide. In 1977, Orange County contained 58 <br /> industrial-based establishments, employing 2000 workers. 1 The contribution <br /> _ <br /> ' of the manufacturing sector to the employment picture will probably . <br /> increase significantly during the plan period, although areas appropriate <br /> for industrial activities have been designated and the 1-85/U.S. 70 <br /> corridor and at Commercial-Industrial Transition and Rural Industrial <br /> activity nodes. <br /> ..... - . - . <br /> Governmental Employnent <br /> The single most important sector in Orange County is government. In 1962, <br /> 5,900 persons were employed in the government sector.
