Dramatic population increases <br /> in the rural townships are now receiving a greater proportion of County <br /> development. Bingham and Eno Townships had the highest growth rates in <br /> the County, while Hillsborough, Cheeks and Cedar Grove Townships began to <br /> show a positive growth rate, a reversal of their negative growth rates <br /> during the 1960-1970 decade. Only Cedar Grove and Little River Tbwnshdps, <br /> experienced a growth rate lower than the Chapel Hill Township, the predomi- <br /> nant urban and urbanizing township. In absolute numbers the growth in the <br /> rural townships is relatively small. However, the impact of this change <br /> on areas characterized by low density, low intensity rural and agricultural <br /> development is significant. <br /> 52 <br />
