A SERIES OF FURTHER MEETINGS WERE HELD IN CHAPEL HILL <br /> TOWNSHIP TO WORK OUT THE DETAILS OF A PLAN FOR THAT TOWNSHIP. <br /> IN JUNE 1976, THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT PRODUCED A REPORT ENTITLED A PLANNING/ <br /> MANAGEMENT PROCESS FOR ORANGE COUNTY WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOUND LAND DEVEIDPMENT,. <br /> THE REPORT CONTAINED A LAND CLASELFICATION SYSTEM FORUM COUNTY AND A SKETCH DEVE- <br /> . <br /> OPMENT PLAN FOR CHAPEL HILI, TOWNSHIP. THE CHAPEL HILL TOWNSHIP PLAN INCLUDED A TEMP <br /> AND A MAP. BOTH WERE ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. <br /> 1 IN THE FALL OF 1977, TOWNSHIP ADVISORY COUNCILS WERE ORGANIZED IN ALL SEVEN <br /> TOWNSHIPS FOR THE PURPOSE OF INVOLVING PEOPLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COUNTY-WIDE <br /> LAND USE PLAN. AS THEIR NAME INDICATES, THESE GROUPS WERE ADVISORY TO THE PLANNING <br /> BOARD ON PLANNING MATTERS. MEMBERSHIP WAS OPEN TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS. <br /> THE ADVISORY COUNCILS , Y. WERE INVOLVED IN REVIEWING THE SUBDIVISION <br /> REGULATIONS WHICH WERE TO BE EXTENDED COUNTY-WIDE. THE ORDINANCE WAS ADOPTED FOR <br /> THE COUNTY IN MARCH 1978, BUT THE PROCESS OF ADOPTION AND SUBSEQUENT AMENDMENTS FULLY <br /> fi <br /> INVOLVED THE ADVISORY COUNCILS UNTIL JANUARY 1979 WHEN AMENDMENTS TO THE ORDINANCE <br /> WERE ADOPTED. <br /> IN THAT SANE MONTH, JANUARY 1979, THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ADOPTED A WORK <br /> PROGRAM FOR THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT WHICH INCLUDED AS AN OPJEC'TTVE ADOPTION OF LAND <br /> USE PLANS FOR BINGHAM, HTTLSBOROUGH AND CHEEKS TOWNSHIP. THAT OBJECTIVE WAS SUBSE- <br /> QUENTLY EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ADOPTION OF A LAND USE PLAN COUNTY-WIDE. <br /> BETWEEN JANUARY 1979 AND FEBRUARY 1981 EACH OF THE ADVISORY COUNCILS HELD REGULAR <br /> 40 <br /> MEETINGS, STAFFED BY THE PLANNING DEPARITENT. OVER SUCH MEETINGS WERE HELD, THE <br /> ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS FIRST DISCUSSED PLANNING ISSUES AND OUT OF THE ISSUES DEFINED <br /> A SERIES OF SEVENTEEN GENERAL PLANNING GOALS.
