- - <br /> The projected population of 8168 persons in Eno Township by the year <br /> 2000 would require an estimated 1482 additional dwelling units and 3157 <br /> acres of additional residential- land. In addition to the residential <br /> acreage, residential development brings in its wake the need for land <br /> for non-residential facilities, fire stations and other similar uses. <br /> The total additional acreage required during the plan period, therefore <br /> is 3315 acres. <br /> Allocation of Growth <br /> The primary task of the Land Use Plan is to geographically allocate the <br /> anticipated growth throughout the Township in accordance with the County- <br /> wide goals and policies and the Township policy statements. In actuality, <br /> the amount of land allocated to acconixiate this growth will be substan <br /> tially greater than the calculated need to allow for variation in the <br /> availability of land and the exercise of market choice. <br /> The following allocation guidelines which incorporate the descriptive <br /> framework of the County land use clLsificati6n system, are derived from <br /> the County and Township policies to facilitate the process of determining <br /> the location of new growth in Eno Township: <br /> o The areas in the northern and central portions of Eno Township <br /> contain the prime agricultural soils in the County and should be <br /> maintained in this use. <br /> o Low density rural non-farm residential development is most appro- <br /> priate in the southern tier of Eno Township. <br /> o 1414 and medium intensity commercial, and industrial development should be <br /> located at the activity node in and around the intersection of <br /> U.S. 70 and Interstate 85. <br /> o Medium and high intensity residential development is appropriate <br /> in the area focused on the intersection of U.S. 70 and 1-85 and <br /> the area extending southeast to the Durham line. <br /> o The Duke Forest and Eno State Park lands, which are associated <br /> with prime educational and recreational opportunities, should <br /> be protected as public interest lands. <br /> In light of these allocation guidelines, information about land in Eno <br /> Township was "filtered" through the set of location criteria in order to <br /> evaluate the suitability of cevLain locations to contain various land <br /> uses. This information was then utilized in the classification of land <br /> throughout Eno Township. <br /> Distribution of Land Use Plan Categories <br /> Land in. Eno Township has been classified into the following Land Use Plan <br /> categories according to the public policies expressed in the Plan, the <br /> set of locational criteria defining the appropriateness of the physical <br /> environmental, context, and the Township's projected population change and <br /> resulting space requirements: <br />
